Orin Larsen

Student President

2009-2010

Hello Everyone,

My name is Orin Larsen and I am your MHSRA Student President for the 2009-2010 season.

High School Rodeo is a huge stepping stone to all rodeo athletes. You can ask any professional rodeo cowboy/cowgirl and the majority of them will say that they got their rodeo career started in High School Rodeo.  Most competitors start at Grade 6 and go through until Grade 12. MHSR is a great learning experence for all ages.

This association is a great opportunity to meet new people and to create life long friendships; most of my best friends are in the rodeo arena.  In the sport of rodeo, the rodeo competitors are never competing with each other, they are either competing against the animal or the stop watch, and I think thats the beauty of rodeo.  Everyone is cheering and supporting one another and everyone is family.  Another advantage of high school rodeo is how well the animals are treated.  The stock is treated with the best of care, they are fed with the most nutritious feed, the cleanest water and given the softest bedding.  We make sure that we take very good care of our four-legged super stars.

The length of the rodeo season is the same length of an average school year.  The MHSRA Finals are held at Hamiota Manitoba at the end of June. Depending on where the athlete places in the overall standings, you can qualify for National High School Rodeo Finals which are held in Gillet, Wyoming in 2010; or the Canadian High School Rodeo Finals which will be held in 2010 at home in Brandon, Manitoba.

In my opinion, the Student Executive Directors and the Adult Executive Directors for this year are outstanding.  I have big plans to make this rodeo season fun, better and more exciting than ever before.

I have no regrets about joining this Association and I am glad to be a part of it.  Thank you for taking the time to read my input on what I think of High School Rodeo.  Hope to see you down the rodeo trail.

Happy Trails,

Orin Larsen

Student President
