Justine Emily Jean Cornelsen is your 2009-2010 Manitoba High School Rodeo Queen! She is a 17 year old, grade 12 student at Erickson Collegiate Institute. Justine lives on a ranch in Riding Mountain National Park just outside of Onanole, with her parents Stephen & Janice and her brother Austin. This is her fourth year of High School Rodeo. Justine is a five event cowgirl, competing in Goat Tying (her favourite), Barrel Racing, Pole Bending, Breakaway Roping, and Team Roping. She is the student executive treasurer for the up and coming rodeo season. This past year she was named the All-Around Cowgirl and took home the year end titles in Barrel Racing and Goat Tying. She has been in several other associations other than MHSRA, such as the Manitoba Barrel Racing Association, the Saskatchewan Barrel Racing Association, the Manitoba Rodeo Cowboys Association, the Canadian Cowboys Association and has also been a member of the Heartland Rodeo Association. Justine has completed 7 years of equine 4H, and is currently working on her second year of the Young Horse Development Program. She enjoys breaking and training horses, and is proud of the fact she has trained all of her own rodeo horses. In her spare time between rodeos and riding, she has played three years of club volleyball and is the team captain for the Erickson Varsity girls’ volleyball team. During the spring rodeo season Justine is a competitive track and field athlete competing in the 80M hurdles, as well as playing badminton, basketball, and cross country running. Academic Achievements: Justine has been on the Gold Honour Roll for three years and has received top average in her class. She has received many academic, citizenship and athlete of the year awards. During July of this year Justine spent a week in Farmington, New Mexico representing Manitoba in the Queen contest at the National High School Rodeo Finals. Overall she finished in the top twenty, with top ten finishes in both horsemanship and the personal interview. She also competed in barrel racing and goat tying on borrowed horses. “I was honoured to represent Manitoba in Farmington and I enjoyed the experience greatly! All the horses I used were either borrowed or leased because of the outbreak of VS, so I am very thankful I still received the chance to compete and represent Manitoba. I would encourage any girls that are interested in running for High School Rodeo Queen, to take up the opportunity and challenge. Competing at National Level is an experience of a life time!! If anyone wants to know more about the competition, the experience or just have any questions, feel free to ask. Girls, it’s a once in a life time experience that you will never forget. High School Rodeo has given me so many great opportunities, experiences and friendships. I want to give back to the association in as many ways possible. I plan on representing Manitoba to the best of my ability all year long and promoting the sport of Rodeo in Manitoba.” “Remember Yesterday, Dream Tomorrow, But, Live today ”. Miss High School Rodeo Manitoba Justine Cornelsen
